OUR HISTORY

Grace Tabernacle Church is a local assembly that was founded under the leadership of Bro. Julius S. Dennis in 1941 for the spreading of the Gospel.  Grace Tabernacle was first established at 21 First Street, which is now called Ricker Street.  There was only one adult, Sis. Mary Haynes, and many children who attended.  In 1951 Grace Tabernacle moved to 125 Romney Street, which is its present location.  The Assembly continued to grow—two sisters from Logan Street began to attend and many other children were attending.  As Bro. Dennis was reaching out, he began another chapel in North Charleston so Bro. Jesse Bryant became the pastor of Grace Tabernacle Church in 1970.  After Bro. Bryant went to be with the Lord in 1977, Bro. Ernest Young came and ministered and also Bro. Kenneth Cresswell ministered on the 1st and 3rd Sundays.  In 1979 Bro. Ernest Singleton was ordained Elder at Grace Tabernacle, Bro. Richard Choice was ordained deacon.  After being rebuilt, Grace Tabernacle had its dedication service in November 1999.  In 2002 Bro. Sedrick E. Singleton was ordained Elder.  On November 26, 2011, Grace had its anniversary service in celebration of 70 years of ministry and 60 years in its present location.
